My rants n ramblings.sigh sombody there to hear it?
hi,

allmost all of u use google as ur main serach engine.google is damn good.and it retrieves millions of pages for a given search string.but the problem starts here.there is too much of information there.even when u use google u have to spend at times hours to get ur required information.the tips below will guide u to perform a easy and an efficient search for u as per ur requiremets.all these tips are got from internet and from other relatd books.

consider the search term "blogs joe user" in google without the double quotes.

1.by default google assumes tha above search term to be = blogs AND joe AND user

2.if u wanna perform search for either of the words then = blogs OR joe OR user (include OR
in ur search string)

3.| (pipe symbol used in programming languages can also be used)

4.suppose if u dont wanna include some terms in the search then use a '-' (minus or dash) symbol.
eg: joe user -computer(google will serach for the page conatining joe and user but not computer)

5.intitle: restricts your search to the titles of web pages.(intitle:blog)

6.allintitle: finds pages wherein all the words specified make up the title of the web page.

7.inurl: restricts your search to the URLs of web pages.(inurl:blog)

8.allinurl: variation finds all the words listed in a URL but doesn't mix well with some other special syntaxes.

9.intext: searches only body text (i.e., ignores link text, URLs, and titles).(intext:rants)

10.allintext: variation, but again, this doesn't play well with others. While its uses are limted, it's perfect for finding query words that might be too common in URLs or link titles.

11.inanchor: searches for text in a page's link anchors. A link anchor is the descriptive text of a link. (inanchor:download here)

11.cache: finds a copy of the page that Google indexed even if that page is no longer available at its original URL or has since changed its content completely.

12.filetype: searches the suffixes or filename extensions. These are usually, but not necessarily, different file types. I like to make this distinction, because searching for filetype:htm and filetype:html will give you different result counts, even though they're the same file type. You can even search for different page generators, such as ASP, PHP, CGI, and so forth—presuming the site isn't hiding them behind redirection and proxying.
eg. "leading economic indicators" filetype:ppt

13.site: allows you to narrow your search by either a site or a top-level domain.
eg.site:joeuser.com

14.related:, as you might expect, finds pages that are related to the specified page. Not all pages are related to other pages.

15.info: provides a page of links to more information about a specified URL. Information includes a link to the URL's cache, a list of pages that link to that URL, pages that are related to that URL, and pages that contain that URL.

c ya later...

the info: command doens't seem to be working for me. i just get the site itself in the search results.

e.g. info:joeuser.com just returns joeuser.com in the search results.

hi,

think there was misinterpretation.when u give info:joeuser.com it returns the site and below it gives 4 links to google cache, similar links, link from other websites, and web pages that contain joeuser string.it displays them corectly below.
